Support the "National Disability Insurance Scheme"
We all have rights to no fault medical services:
Yet not to no fault disability services!
If we have a disability not covered under work cover or motor accident insurance, we must beg, crawl and lick bureaucratic boots to perhaps get a few crumbs of the current bureaucrat controlled hand-out services.
This is how it is every day of every year for most of those born with a disability in Australia. They and their families can never rest from the constant struggle to obtain and retain services, and to monitor and question service level and quality.
This is not right, proper or a reasonable human right in any society, certainly not in resource-rich Australia. The ABC TV program "Four Corners" showed Britain could provide meaningful rights based services for its citizens disadvantaged by disability - So why not Australia?
All Australians should be asking why its most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens and their families have been left out in the cold to beg at the doors of government bureaucrats for some resemblance of a quality of life similar to that of the majority of Australians.
Thanks to those with the infrastructure and charisma to promote and lobby for the necessary federal legislation to ensure all Australians with a disability have access to rights-based services, the NDIS concept is being actively promoted in government circles, and is being well received.
Disappointingly, there is one Melbourne based group which is actively speaking against NDIS on the grounds of the concept being supported and promoted by three large service providers, rather than, as they say, by a parent group.
We see no parent or family group with sufficient infrastructure, recognition and acceptance in government circles to undertake such a mammoth social and political task directly associated with the Medicare Levy.
If the potential for no fault rights-based services is lost, those with a disability and their families will remain on the long hard road with no end in sight but to depart this world.
If you have any concerns about the NDIS concept, discuss these with the NDIS Team here
. Otherwise, give NDIS your full and active support. A united front is essential to achieve such a complex and mammoth task as meaningful rights based services for everyone with a disability in Australia.
