A Royal Commission into the Disability Sector is a Must!
Everyone’s action is needed to clean up the disability sector! We urge you to support this need by writing to your Minister for Disability Services and contacting your local MP asking that they support the Federal Royal Commission.
As the readers may be aware, an outcome of the recent Senate Inquiry into abuse in the disability sector across Australia was for the Federal Government to establish a Royal Commission into the sector with particular reference to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence as occurring in the sector.
The following is suggested for a letter or email (we can provide contact details):
I write seeking you make a public statement supporting the recent call made by the Federal Senate Community Affairs Reference Committee into violence, abuse and neglect against people with a disability, for a Royal Commission to be established by the Federal Government.
As you will be aware, the recent investigation as undertaken by Victoria’s Ombudsman into allegations of abuse in the disability sector and the Parliament of Victoria’s Family and Community Development Committee inquiry, each highlighted widespread concerns about abuse, neglect exploitation and violence occurring in the disability sector.
I trust you concur that it now time for a Royal Commission to be established.
I look forward to reading of your public support for a Royal Commission and you advising the Federal Government of your support.
